CartHook is a data-driven company at its core. Founded in 2015, CartHook is an e-commerce platform that enables Shopify stores to build optimized checkout funnels. They can increase a shopper’s average order value by allowing the merchant to offer post-purchase upsells after the initial checkout. Internal Analytics Leads the Way 

CartHook brought Periscope Data onboard to help with internal analytics, which quickly drove value for the company. Dashboards were first created for the company’s top line metrics, but soon each business unit was given their own dashboards with key performance indicators, empowering the company to build a company-wide data-focused culture.

As data became easy to access, groups began to build their own exploratory dashboards. This let them analyze data for a single merchant, across a cohort or for all of CartHook’s customers at once. Eventually, Periscope Data was even used to create dashboards for their investors.

Building an Analytics Platform

In addition to their internal analytics, CartHook has a special use case: white-labeled embedded reporting.

E-commerce is a heavily data-driven business, and merchants want to know exactly how their stores are performing. CartHook empowers its customers by providing in-depth reporting for its checkout flow across all its sales funnels.

“This is not a simple process — merchants can have thousands of sales funnels, each one requiring new, fresh data every time a merchant wants to examine a different segment, product or sales flow,” said Fisher. “We needed an analytics solution that could handle our demands for up-to-date information and allow us to answer new questions as they came up.”

In the beginning, CartHook relied on its own infrastructure to store and manage its data, but as the number of customers grew, it required a solution that could scale with its needs. Fisher made the decision to move to a turnkey solution that could help CartHook’s team move back to their core business  — helping merchants sell more product.
